Last season, Manchester United struggled to find rhythm and consistency, finishing 15th in the Premier League, one of their worst seasons in history. Early in this season, they improved but still remained outside the top 6 leading into November. Under coach Rúben Amorim, the team failed to reach its full potential, dropping points in easy games and tying many matches. The players and fans were both disappointed as the team was not reaching its full potential.
After a 1-1 draw vs Leeds United, they dropped to 6th place in the league. United sacked Rúben Amorim on January 5th, replacing him with the current head coach, Michael Carrick. This decision proved extremely beneficial for United as they have seen great success under Carrick’s new management. Since his hiring, they’ve won 8 games, tied 2, and lost 2. Additionally, he’s coached them to crucial wins over top-5 Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City.
All of a sudden, the old, passionate Manchester United is back. Fans’ excitement is growing, fueled by greater encouragement and belief in the new team. There seemed to be a shift, with players gaining confidence and joy while playing. Bruno Fernandes has asserted himself as one of the world’s best midfielders, playing the best football of his life, setting the single-season Manchester United assists record, and chasing the all-time Premier League record. Along with this, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo’s young talent has shone in the midfield alongside Fernandes. The combination of attackers Matheus Cuhna and Bryan Mbeumo has also reached new heights, contributing to the teams goal scoring sucess. Additionally, with Senne Lammens in goal and Maguire’s experience in central defense, United are controlling the games and playing with confidence.

United has seen significant improvement recently, coming close to winning five games in a row for the first time in over 2 years. Unfortunately for a man named Frank Ilett, they tied the 5th game against West Ham. Frank Ilett is a TikTok/Instagram influencer who has gone viral for not cutting his hair until Manchester United win 5 games in a row. He hasn’t cut his hair since October 5th of 2024, and the streak continues. His hair is now messy and covering up a lot of his face. However, with this new brand of Manchester United, perhaps we will see Frank cut his hair in the near future.
As of Matchweek 34 of 38 in the Premier League, Manchester United now sits in 3rd place in the Premier League Standings, with a strong chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season. They have not qualified for the Champions League in the past three years and now rest in a great spot to make that happen. Overall, under the new management of Michael Carrick and support from fans, Manchester United are playing the best football we’ve seen from them in years.
