Q: What accomplishment from your time at Laguna has meant the most to you?
A: The accomplishment that meant the most to me was winning league for soccer. Our team hadn’t done that in over 10 years, so it was really special. After four years, finally in my senior year, we got the win. It felt amazing to accomplish that together as a team.
Q: What student-athletes from previous years have inspired you the most, and why?
A: I would say Gandon Walker has inspired me the most. He played three different sports throughout high school, football, basketball, and volleyball. That really inspires me because I also like playing multiple sports. His dedication to each sport and his ability to perform at a high level in all of them is really impressive.
Q: How do you plan to keep athletics in your life at Cal Poly?
A: I’m definitely going to try out for either a club team or an intramural team. Sports are a huge part of my life, and I can’t imagine going through college without playing in some capacity.
Q: Do you plan to pursue a career in athletics?
A: Yes, I’m interested in sports journalism or anything in the sports world—like sports marketing, interviewing athletes, or broadcasting. That’s something I’d really like to pursue.
Q: How has being a multi-sport athlete benefited you in high school and in life?
A: Being a multi-sport athlete has helped me focus on different aspects of my development. For example, soccer is more focused on running and physical endurance, especially for my legs. Volleyball, on the other hand, emphasizes communication; especially beach volleyball, where you only have one partner. That really builds teamwork and communication skills.
Q: Which athletes do you look up to most in the sports you play?
A: For soccer, I look up to Bruno Fernandes, the Manchester United central midfielder. He has incredible vision on the field and keeps improving. This season he broke Manchester United’s single-season assist record, and he’s always dangerous on the ball and around goal.
Q: Are there any sports you haven’t fully tried that you think you’d enjoy?
A: One sport I’ve tried a little but want to get more into is pickleball. It’s a really fun game, especially with friends. I already have a couple of paddles, and it’s honestly as fun as any sport I’ve played.
