Sarah Woodhouse led Laguna Blanca with 20 kills in a 3-2 first-round CIF-SS Division 7 playoff win Thursday at home against Wildwood.

Set scores were 25-16, 16-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-6.

Woodhouse also had 10 digs and two aces, and Lola Hall followed with 16 kills, five aces and seven digs.

Ginger Finney dished 32 assists.

“These were two relatively even teams battling it out all night,” Owls coach Jason Donnelly said. “We started strong and they responded. It was back and forth all night, and fortunately for us we played our best volleyball of the night during a near error-free fifth set.”

Laguna Blanca, now 12-3 overall, faces West Valley in a second round match on Saturday. West Valley swept Nogales on Thursday.

“Sarah Woodhouse took some big swings for us late in the match,” Donnelly said. “We went to the 5-1 and Ginger did a really nice job of finding our hot hitters. That can’t happen if we don’t take care of the first contact. Jacqueline Richardson (17 digs) had a great night for us defensively and really played well.

“Danica Rux continues to improve nearly every day.  She provides offense from both the middle and right side and had a critical block in the middle that allowed us to gain momentum in the 5th.”
