Stanford Daily summer internship/externships

The Stanford Daily’s 2020 summer internship is an eight-week, remote opportunity that we think would be of interest to Laguna Blanca students. We also offer two one-day externship programs for those who cannot or do not want to commit to the internship.
The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. PT on May 22. We evaluate applications on a rolling basis and respond to each applicant with a decision/next steps within three days of hearing from them.
Would you be willing to share the following note with your students? I am happy to answer any questions. Thank you so much for reading!
“I did The Daily’s summer internship in 2013 and 2014 and had a great experience! I practiced the fundamentals of journalism, got personal feedback and encouragement on my stories, and left the program a clearer writer and a more confident interviewer. Along the way, I got to learn about Stanford and chat with really interesting people.”
— The Stanford Daily’s Vol. 253 editor-in-chief and current Washington Post reporter Hannah Knowles ’19
Through our eight-week, remote internship program, we help our high school interns get their work published on The Stanford Daily’s website (one of our interns had seven articles published last summer, and they stay online indefinitely!) as they receive one-on-one guidance from Daily editors in weekly check-in meetings. There will also be live weekly trainings and webinars with speakers including Nicholas Thompson, the editor-in-chief of WIRED (check it out!). We immerse our interns in the experience through a dedicated Slack workspace where communication is regular, as editors guide interns through their work individually on a day-to-day basis.
The internship is from Monday, June 22, 2020 to Friday, August 14, 2020. DON’T WORRY if you cannot attend all of the remote training sessions. We understand circumstances are rapidly changing for many of us, and we will take measures such as sharing extensive notes and recording the training sessions (interns will not be recorded) to ensure resources are accessible to our participants. It is okay to participate in The Daily’s internship and another summer program concurrently, as you can shape your own schedule in our program.
The full application (don’t worry; it’s short!) for our programs is due on May 22, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. PT. We will evaluate applications on a rolling basis and get back to you with a decision/next steps within three days of receiving your application. In addition to the internship, we offer two one-day externship programs (June 13 and June 20).

The program fee for the eight-week internship is $1990 total, and each externship program is $199Remote payment options include PayPal. We also offer both partial and full need-based scholarships to those for whom the program fee is a barrier. If participating in any of our programs would pose a financial burden to you, or if you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to email [email protected].
We look forward to seeing Laguna Blanca students’ applications and to working with them through the internship and/or externship.

Cheers,
Holden
