International/Interactive/Hands-On/Cultural Immersion Trip to Cuba
We are most excited to announce an International/Interactive/Hands-On/Cultural Immersion Trip to Cuba for students in grades 7 through 12 which takes place at the beginning of summer, June 21-29. Our trip to the 20th century’s most mysterious island will enhance our student’s appreciation of a rarely seen culture as they Walk Old Town Havana, Explore Cuba’s colonial and native island culture, Photograph and film rare scenery, Play baseball, Take Salsa Dancing and Cooking Lessons, and capture it all under the direction of video-production instructor Dug Uyesaka and journalism adviser Trish McHale.
Our trip reflects Laguna Blanca’s growing emphasis on Global Studies while at the same time reflecting our cross-curricular goals by bringing together the arts and writing curriculums in our Convergent Media Adventure. While in Cuba we will compare notes and observations about the countryside, culture and customs. We will experienced diverse and fun activities: tasting, listening, swimming, dancing, and hiking through marvelous mini-segments of Cuban life.
The Cuba trip will be coordinated and overseen by Friendship Tours World Travel, in partnership with award-winning history teacher Alethea Tyner Paradis. Our pilgrimage to Cuba is a perfect moment to capture an enigmatic place in rare transformation.
An informational meeting will be held for parents n Monday, Feb. 10th from 5:30-6:30 in the Emmons Art Center on the Upper School campus. We look forward to sharing more about this once-in-a-lifetime trip with you and your kids. Please do not hesitate to contact Trish McHale or Dug Uyesaka for more information.
Sincerely,
Trish McHale and Dug Uyesaka
