Seeking Editorial Interns and Production Interns

Editorial Internsmission

Mission and State, a newly launched nonprofit investigative and narrative journalism publication at missionandstate.org, is looking for editorial interns to contribute to our site.

This is a great opportunity to work with experienced, award-winning journalists in a fast-paced newsroom whose digital model is the future of investigative and narrative journalism.

Interns who are students will be encouraged to pitch stories for sections like “Campus Confidential,” which chronicles student life in student voices, or “Our Town,” which provides windows into Santa Barbara life. Interns will also be able to accompany reporters out into the field and create their own content. If interested, they may contribute to our social media efforts, marketing, event planning and research on larger stories.

Required skills:
– Good writing technique and narrative voice
– Ability to research topics and interview subjects
– Meticulous attention to detail

Bonus points if you possess these skills:
– Digital photography/videography
– Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
– Familiarity with WordPress
– Intimate grasp of AP style

Applicants with limited experience need not hesitate to apply. We will provide training to applicants who demonstrate interest and aptitude.

Hours are flexible. Interns are free to work remotely or on a per-story basis, if they so desire. Compensation is on a per-project basis.

Please send a resume and work sample to PC Nguyen, managing editor at info at missionandstate dot org.

We look forward to hearing from you.
