Volunteer Training at the Library
Adult and Teen Volunteers Needed for Summer Reading Program
The Santa Barbara Central Library seeks energetic volunteers to help with all aspects of the Summer Reading Program. The 2016 program, “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read,” begins on June 14 and runs through August 6. Adults and teens interested in welcoming families, explaining the program, enrolling participants, discussing books with children, and awarding prizes can sign up now.
Volunteers are encouraged to choose and register for one training session at the library at which they plan to volunteer or contact their local branch for more information. Volunteers interested in volunteering at the Central Library may reserve their space at a training by calling (805) 564-5674. Teen volunteers must be over age 14 at the Central Library. Trainings will take place on:
• Thursday, May 26, 5-6:30 p.m. in the Tech Lab on the Main Floor of the Central Library
• Saturday, May 28, 1-2:30 p.m. in the Island Room at the Central Library
• Monday, June 13, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Island Room at the Central Library
The annual Summer Reading Program is a library tradition that instills a lifelong love of learning by encouraging children to read and participate in events over the summer. Volunteer outreach efforts are supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Partners in Education, and the Friends of the Libraries. Teens earn community service volunteer hours for their efforts.
