It’s been a productive week for Owls! Kylan Tyng ’16 won the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, 10-10-10 Student Competition for the high school directors’ category today, with his entry, “Lost and Found”. The winning film started with a great script from a San Marcos student who won the high school screenwriters award combined with Kylan’s eye for casting, directing, shooting and editing. Almost all of the crew and many of the actors were LBS students including Bea Tolan ’16 who stars as Heather, and classmates Valeria Romo ’16, Theo Berriet ’16, Isaac Baron ’16, Max Mayrock ’16 and Joan Curran ’17 were among the crew along with thirty more Laguna students who were extras in the “party scenes.” The group had 8.5 days to film and produce the entire project.
Meanwhile, Sophomore Camila Lemere won 1st place at the SB County Poetry Recitation Contest on Thursday! Before a hushed room, she recited “The Legend” by Garrett Hongo. She will be heading to Sacramento on the 28th to compete in the State Championship!
Merith Velazquez recently discovered she earned a full scholarship from AFS Intercultural Programs, which will allow her to study abroad for two weeks this summer. She has 19 countries she can choose from, and is leaning towards Japan. Congratulations to all Laguna students in your many accomplishments!
