Will 2016 finally be the year that Leonardo DiCaprio wins an Oscar for his staring role in The Revenant? Although this is not his first nomination, this may be the first time that DiCaprio walks away with the prestigious statuette. He has previously received five nominations for his roles in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Aviator, Blood Diamond, and two for Wolf of Wall Street—making his nomination for the Revenant his sixth one. Leonardo DiCaprio plays a legendary explorer named Hugh Glass who is betrayed and left for dead by his own confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Inspired by true events, The Revenant follows the story of Glass’s will to survive in the unexplored wilderness of America in the 1820s. Although critiques have praised the movie, will that be enough to break DiCaprio’s Oscar ‘curse’?
