The Youth Council in conjunction with the Mayor and School District is hosting a Stop the Bullying Event on Thursday, October 30th, beginning at 5 p.m. The event is part of a national campaign in which Mayors of national cities is screening the acclaimed movie “Bully”. Our event will be followed by brief discussions led by the Peace Builders and Youth Council.
The event is for both students and adults with the goal in mind to help alleviate bullying events in our community. We have members of all the high schools and of private schools and junior high helping to coordinate this event and we need your help and support.
The movie will start about 5:30 and the event should end by 8 p.m. There will be refreshments as well as at least 14 other organizations that will have resource tables at the event.
It is going to be a great event. We are also hoping that perhaps the teachers could offer extra credit to their students for attending and for completing an essay questions on the importance of communities coming together to eradicate all types of violence or on the subject of how they, as individuals, can help in this effort (or whatever question you feel is appropriate).
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Roberta Payan. Our office number is 897-2568.
