Description of Program
In this seasonal internship program, teens ages 15–18 create
hands-on art projects with working artists, learn tricks of the
trade from art professionals, and gain inside information on
how the Museum functions. Choose from fall, winter, and/or
spring sessions that each feature a different Museum exhibition,
professional artist, and project. In addition to their exposure
to the professional art world, interns create interactive
art projects for their peers, in order to foster an environment
within the Museum that is inclusive and welcoming to other
students their age.
For the fall session, interns work with local artist Jennifer Vanderpool,
with mentoring by Museum Senior Teaching Artist
Kendall Pata. This three-week program at the end of October
explores architecture, color, and geometric shapes, and is inspired
by the current exhibition Contemporary/Modern: Selections
from the Permanent Collection. The internship culminates
with a three-dimensional group installation in the store
window, unveiled on November 6, 2014 in conjunction with the
Museum’s 1st Thursday event.
Interns also develop an interactive art project for their peers inspired by the same exhibition, and debut and
teach their project at the Museum’s High School event on November 4, 2014.
Selected interns receive internship hours and community service credit.
Interviews
This program requires an interview. After the application deadline, students will be contacted via email to set
up a phone interview with mentoring Senior Teaching Artist Kendall Pata.
If accepted, interns will be notified via email.
