My name is Min-Ling Li, and I am a Program Coordinator at the Institute for Educational Advancement (IEA), an independent, national, non-profit organization based in Pasadena. I am contacting you about IEA’s Apprenticeship Program, which nurtures the extraordinary potential of high school students. It is a summer residential pre-college program aimed at providing an opportunity for students to apply their classroom knowledge in a field of their interest. We provide them with challenging, hands-on learning experiences and mentors in various professions for three weeks during the summer. The Apprenticeship Program features several sites in Southern California including: California Institute of Technology, UCLA Department of Biomathematics, USC Viterbi School of Engineering, Industrial Design at Art Center College of Design, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Court.
The 2014 Apprenticeship Program will run for up to seven weeks. During this time, Apprentices will spend weekdays working with their mentors on prearranged projects, and at the end of the program they will be required to present their work to fellow participants and other interested parties. Apprentices will live on a nearby college campus and IEA staff will transport them to and from sites, supervise them in the dorms, and provide enriching evening and weekend activities. For more information about the Apprenticeship Program, please visit the IEA website. http://www.educationaladvancement.org/programs/apprenticeship
Past program participants rave about their experiences and many have gone on to attend prestigious universities and major in the field of study they explored as an Apprentice.
Please let me know if you would be interested in learning more about IEA’s Apprenticeships for your students. I would be happy to send you additional information about the program and answer any questions you may have.
Thank you very much for your time!
All the Best,
Min-Ling Li
