The UCSB Koegel Autism Center recently received a research grant to create an adolescent social skills group for junior high and high school students with autism spectrum disorder. It is a 2.5-hour weekly program (Weds OR Thurs from 4:00-6:30pm), located at UCSB, and runs for 20 weeks total. Peer mentors will have the opportunity to work for 6 to 24 months total.
We are looking for:
Typically developing, responsible high school student volunteers to serve as social mentors/facilitators. These roles are intended to give students valuable university research experience – simultaneously fulfilling community service requirements and possibly enhancing their future college applications.
Because of your role at your school, we thought that you might know of students who might benefit from serving as a volunteer social facilitator. Please forward this information to any students and families that might be interested.
They can contact me directly at 805.895.5567 (my cell phone) or email me at [email protected]
Sincerely,
Dr. Ty Vernon
