Dear Colleague, I am pleased to announce Bennington’s fifteenth annual Young Writers Awards. Bennington College has a long tradition of excellence in creative and critical writing among our faculty and alumni, including seven Pulitzer Prize winners, three U.S. poet laureates, and the youngest Man Booker Prize winner. The Bennington Young Writers Awards recognizes outstanding writing achievement by high school students across the country. Over the years, thousands of gifted high school students have submitted ambitious original work–poetry, short stories or one-act plays, and essays–to this competition. Two prizes are awarded in each genre, $500 to each first-place winner and $250 to each second. To read past winning submissions or to learn more about the awards, visit our website. Attached is a poster and submission form, which I encourage you to share with your students. The entry deadline is November 1; entries may be submitted online at www.bennington.edu/YoungWritersCompetition.aspx. Please join our effort to promote and celebrate excellence in writing by inviting your students to participate this year. Sincerely, |
