CA Coastal Clean Up Day

Hi all,

Please join us on Saturday, September 21, 2013, from 9 a.m. to Noon for California Coastal Cleanup Day. Laguna Blanca School will once again be represented at Miramar/Hammonds Beach!

Please join us for this great community service opportunity to make a beach cleanup a K-12, faculty, staff, and family event for Laguna Blanca School! Make sure to wear your LAGUNA-Wear to show school spirit!

It’s a B.Y.O. event again this year, so please bring your own (B.Y.O.) bag or bucket (something to collect your trash and recyclables in), glove, and reusable water bottle (I will bring a 5-gallon jug of water to share!), to further reduce waste.

*************************************************************************************************************

Here are the steps that those who participate need to take:

1. To get to this beach:

  • Take the San Ysidro Road exit from the 101 – head towards the beach. I will have a table set up at the stairs there for volunteers to check in. We are starting at Miramar Beach and we will be cleaning the beach to the right to Hammonds and to the left out to Fernalds. Walking or Biking to the site is encouraged, as parking is limited.

2. Check in at the table:

  • When you check in at the cleanup location, you will be given a pencil and a special data card to tally the items you collect.
  • Just check back in at the table when you’re done- we’ll weigh the trash and recycling and finish completing your data card.

3. Sign the waiver form (if under 18 and your parent is not accompanying you, it needs to be signed by a parent/guardian).

  • It is attached to this email, and can also be found on the community service page. They will be available in the Hope Ranch front office for students who need to have their parent sign it beforehand.
  • I will also have the waiver form on site on Saturday.

–          Unless you’re under 18 and don’t have a parent with you, you can sign the waiver form here.

4. WHAT TO BRING:

  • Wear sunscreen, close-toed shoes, and a hat. Please wear your LagunaWear!
  • Bring Your Own bucket, glove, and reusable water bottle. Help us cut down our waste. To find out more about our efforts to make this a less wasteful event, visit the BYO page:  <http://www.coastal.ca.gov/publiced/ccd/ccd28.html>
  • Student volunteers under 18 must bring a signed waiver with a parent or guardian signature. Parents with children with them can sign the waiver at the beach.

PLEASE NOTE: High tide (+5.66 feet) is at 11:13  AM, so arriving on the earlier side is a good idea.

Let’s make this year’s event even more successful… See you at the beach!

I’d appreciate it if everyone could help to spread the word about this LBS event- it is an opportunity for K-12 community service. Thank you in advance!

If anyone would like to help me to host the table, let me know. It would be great to have an extra (or two, three…!) set of hands.

Cheers,

Claraca coastal
