Have your kids signed up for Shakespeare Camp yet? Enrollment is starting to fill up and we want everyone to get into the camp of their choice. We’ve already filled our first camp to capacity so we suggest people register today!
Our Teaching Artists want to share some of Shakespeare’s most exciting plays with your kids this summer. We’ve got a team of fantastic theatre professionals who are thrilled to direct Bay Area youth in our summer camps. Our teachers represent a broad spectrum of artists in the Bay Area theatre community, from directors to actors, PhD’s to specialists in toddler education. We match the right teaching to your camp to ensure your child has the best chance to grow onstage and off this summer!
Choosing the right camp…
Shakespeare Sprites: Children (ages 4-6) will enjoy fun-filled, theatre-making activities based on Shakespeare’s classic characters and stories. Imaginative games, arts & crafts, and creative storytelling are all parts of what make up a fabulous day of Sprites Camp. Classes run Monday-Friday from 9am-12pm and costs only $295 for two-weeks including all craft supplies. To register for our San Francisco Sprites camp, clickhere.
Shakespeare Players: Campers ages 7-13 will learn all about the world of performanceand Shakespeare in our popular Players Camp. Our teaching artists teach kids techniques to help them shine onstage as well as design props, costumes and sets. On the final day of camp, all of the campers star in an abridged Shakespeare play presented to an audience of family and friends followed by a celebratory cast party. This year, kids will star in one of the following: The Witches’ Brew (a collection of the magical witch scenes from Macbeth), Macbeth (a thrilling tale of ambition, sorcery and bravery) or Twelfth Night (a hilarious comedy about shipwrecked twins who are castaway on an island populated by rowdy revelers, hopeless romantics and mischievous clowns). Click here to enroll.
Advanced Shakespeare Workshop: Auditions for our conservatory-style program are this Sunday (May 5th) from 1pm-3pm. Experienced teens (ages 12-18) can audition to take part in our advanced training program. Teens can sign up for the two week session from July 15th-26th which includes intensive training in voice, movement, text, stage combat, monologue and scene work. Actors who stay on for an additional two weeks (July 29th-Aug. 9th) will rehearse and perform Shakespeare’s rarely performed tale of troubled succession, civil war, foreign invasion and political intrigue, The Life and Death of King John. Education Program Manager Steve Muterspaugh (director of Shakespeare on Tour’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and SF Shakes’ Shakespeare for All program) will lead actors in an exploration of this poignant play in the beautiful space at 1187 Franklin St. in San Francisco. Teens who want to audition for the workshop on Sunday May 5th in San Francisco should email here. They will be asked to prepare a 1-2 minute memorized Shakespeare speech at our offices at 1560 Davidson Ave. in SF.
We hope to see you all at the various activities the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival offers this summer. From being in a Camp play to watching professionals productions, there’s chances for everyone to come out and help us celebrate the Bard!

Returning Campers
“Great camp experience for Eden and Talia again. Keep up the wonderful work. You inspired my kids to ‘make their own’ costumes rather than to buy, buy, consume, consume. In the process they were inspired to use their imagination rather than falling back on finished merchandise. They love their whimsical costumes!”
