As we approach the AP examination period (May 6-16), I wanted to clarify Laguna’s expectations for Advanced Placement students during these two weeks.
- If your son or daughter is taking a morning AP exam (8:00 a.m.) he or she is excused from his or her morning classes to take the AP exam, but is expected to attend his or her afternoon (after lunch) classes. For example, a student taking AP Chemistry the morning of May 6 is expected to attend his or her afternoon classes on that day. Students electing not to take the AP exam for a particular class are expected to attend all of their classes and take Laguna’s final exam.
- If your son or daughter is taking an afternoon AP exam (12:00 p.m.), he or she can choose whether or not to attend his or her morning classes. Many students will choose to attend these classes so as not to fall behind in their coursework. He or she is excused from his or her afternoon classes to take the AP exam.
- Seniors who take an AP exam do not have to attend that particular AP class on the days following the AP exam.
- Non-seniors taking AP exams still have to attend their AP classes for the rest of the semester.
- All non-AP classes will meet as regularly scheduled.
- Students are not excused from their other classes to study for a particular AP examination.
- Students who take an AP exam will not have to take Laguna’s final exam for that particular AP class.
- All students in grades 9-12 are required to attend Field Day on Friday, May 17.
