On Tuesday, February 23, Laguna Blanca lower school families were invited to come and explore the magic of science with engaging demonstrations and hand on actives hosted by community groups such as the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, Astronomical Unit, UCSB Physics Circus, Cottage Hospital Pathology, SBCC Earth Sciences, and Sensational Pets. Also attending was Dr. Kristie Timm a veterinarian who showed the visiting families how to preform an animal surgery. The Santa Barbara Zoo’s 26-foot Condor Rock wall was also on campus to allow students to act as condor conservationists climbing in the wild to study condors. Other activities include learning about navigation with a compass, holding preserved organs, racing the lidar, viewing ‘sewer bugs’ through a microscope, looking at meteorites, and learning about native trees and plants. This event was an unique out of the classroom learning experience for the students and a special day for all families attending.
