Four years after his arrival, Headmaster Paul Slocombe is stepping down from his position at Laguna, and it is not without great sadness that we say goodbye.
“I’ll miss the warmth of the community and the engagement of the smiles and the students. I’ll miss watching the kids grow up,” said Mr. Slocombe.
Mr. Slocombe joined the Laguna community in 2009 after former headmaster Mr. Doug Jessup’s departure, and made huge strides in improving the School.
Looking back at his tenure as headmaster, Laguna’s athletics and academics have grown.
“I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved over the past four years. I think I’m leading the School in an excellent direction, and I think it’s well-positioned to continue to grow and strengthen.”
Faced with challenges when he arrived, he was undeterred and determined to make a difference.
Saying that he always enjoys a challenge, Mr. Slocombe remembers coming to Laguna for its warmth, the relationships of the students and an excellent teaching staff.
One of the significant changes that he brought was reinstating Laguna’s Cum Laude Society, an honors society for top students.
Whether sitting outside during lunch, meeting with various faculty and administration members, or connecting with the students over surfing, he has certainly become a part of the Laguna family .
“Mr. Slocombe supported my efforts to broaden my global awareness and global education. He has made a huge impact on this community and he will certainly be missed,” senior Daria Etezadi said.
