Slimming Down

Slimming+Down

BalloooonsThese days, we want everything to be thinner. There are people who spend countless hours trying to lose just a few pounds! That infatuation with slimness is one that definitely translates to our tech. Every year, hundreds of new pieces of technology are released, improving on the previous model, becoming lighter, smaller, faster, and more portable. Apple has made billions by offering a phone that is one of the thinnest on the market, yet has the power of a small laptop computer. And the upcoming iPhone 7 is no exception: There are rumors flying of revolutionary thinness, wireless charging, and even the possibility of losing the headphone jack.
Really, Apple?
I can understand why they think that this is a good idea: I own wireless headphones myself, and they’re becoming popular. But, as I know from experience, they’re overly expensive, bulky, and full of bugs. I would be lost without the helpful headphone cord that they come with. And if Apple is planning on taking that option away, then I think that they’re in for a real surprise from the buyers.
My phone is thin! I have last years iPhone 6, and it is like holding a piece of paper. In fact, I think that it might be a little too thin. The small size makes it easy for it to fall out of your hand, and I’ve already dropped mine several times. Apple thinks that it has a need to make phones thinner than any of the competitor, but I sometimes find myself missing the sturdier, thicker iPhones of old.
Apple is not known to be one for full originality. They tend to… “borrow” a lot of their ideas from competitor Samsung, and only releasing them after they’ve perfected them. The idea of losing the headphone jack, while 100% Apple, is, from my point of view, insane. It is losing something that many people constantly use, in favor of reducing a size that most people are happy with already.

Will I buy an iPhone 7? Probably. Even if they get rid of the headphone jack, I will, like the rest of America, feel compelled to purchase the newest tech trend. We are greedy for whatever’s “next gen,” or “this year’s big craze.” While I’m not in love with Apple, I feel hopelessly compelled to buy whatever gizmo they throw my way. And that’s probably not going to change. I really hope that they keep the headphone jack, but come on. It’s Apple. Whatever alternative they come up with would probably not only rock the competition, but also become standard within a matter of months. So good job, Apple. You’ve successfully conned
Americans into spending thousands of dollars on things they don’t even need.

And yes, I am one of them.
