Coastal Cleanup Day, a great success!

Coastal Cleanup Day, a great success!

45 participants (34 adults, 11 children under 12) (26 participants represented LAGUNA BLANCA SCHOOL!) – picked up 54 pounds of trash and 7 pounds of recycling from Miramar/Hammonds Beach! 70% of participants brought buckets and/or gloves from home- way to go! That is community service at its best!

By far, the item collected most was tiny bits of Styrofoam. The ‘runner-up’ was pieces of plastic such as caps/lids, straws/stirrers, plastic food wrappers, and plastic bag bits. The third most common item were cigarette filters.

A special thank you to Allison Armstrong and Bojana Hill for helping the run the table during the event. I really appreciate the help- I couldn’t have done it alone.

Preliminary results are in: 1,287 volunteers collected 5,548 pounds of trash and recyclables from in Santa Barbara County.
