Jumanji: The Next Level Review

Julia Guglielmo, Writer

With Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, and Jack Black being featured, it is no doubt that this movie is full of comedic lines and a great storyline. While the very first Jumanji, published in 1995 with Robin Williams, will always have a special place in our hearts, the new and revamped Jumanji series is action-packed and hilarious. The movie follows the lives of four teenagers who, after getting detention, discover an old video game called Jumanji. While admiring the video game, they transcend into the game as avatars with powers of strength, speed, and even death by cake. Their mission is to retrieve a precious gem stolen from an evil warlord and return it to the statue in which it came.

In Jumanji: The Next Level, a similar instance occurs yet on accident. After the four young adults return from college for the summer, Spencer, known as Dr. Bravestone, decides to enter the game again. His friends follow along and must retrieve yet another stone from a warlord and show it to the sun to win the game. Just like the first movie, this task is accomplished, and there is a happy ending. The end of the film alludes to a sequel, yet I am not sure how this upcoming movie will not be repetitive. Jumanji: The Next Level was very similar to the last film, yet it had some more twists and quirks. Hopefully, producers can create a unique storyline that does not mimic the previous. I am sure they will produce another significant hit with this fantastic cast.
