Creed II Review

Christian Branch

The first Creed movie proved to be another boxing masterpiece stemming from the amazing Rocky series. Director Ryan Coogler and the very talented staff he worked with on that movie were able to produce the perfect mix of tragedy and triumph through the legacy of Apollo Creed. Creed II did not disappoint either, despite the fact that this sequel was done under a new director, Steven Caple Jr.. The director switch was seamless, as Caple Jr. was able to emphasize the role that the Drago family played in Creed’s life while keeping all the story details from the first movie present. Tessa Thompson, who played Bianca in the movie, was again a vital character in the sequel as she and Adonis dealt with the challenges of starting a family while being in the spotlight due to Adonis’ (Michael B. Jordan) career. The spotlight on Adonis was heightened this time around, however, as Viktor Drago, son of Ivan Drago, challenges Creed to a Drago vs. Creed rematch.

These themes of family, hardship, dedication, humility, and success were all blended beautifully together in the second movie of the Creed series, and we can only hope that Creed III is in the works.
