June 10th is, obviously, the day we get out of school for the summer, which is so exciting! But you know what’s even more exciting? The fact that June 10th is ‘National Ballpoint Pen Day!’

Ok. So maybe it’s not as exciting as summer break, but it’s still on the top of the spectrum, right?

Anyhow, I felt that since ballpoint pens are so exciting and fun, I would share 3 amazing facts about these common writing utensils.

1. Many people use ballpoint pens to write stuff.
2. June 10 is National Ballpoint Pen Day.
3. Ballpoint pens are not pencils. They are also not tomatoes, cows or horses.

1. On June 10, 1943, brothers Lásló and György Bíró filed the patent for the ballpoint pen.
2. About 100 people die each year from choking on ballpoint pens.
3. Every second, about 125 ballpoint pens are sold around the world.
4. The Mont Blanc Ball Point, containing 840 diamonds and 20 carats of gemstones and selling for $730,000, is the most expensive ballpoint pen in the world.
5. ⅓ of all ballpoint pens in America are owned by BIC.
