The Laguna Blanca Varsity Boys’ Soccer Team finished its season opening game Saturday in a 2-2 tie at home against Thacher.
The Owls started the game with a quick score. Junior captain Tristan Prinz scored a left-footed shot from the left side of the box into the bottom right corner of the goal. The score was set up by a nice through ball from fellow captain Ryan Bickett.
Soon after, Thacher answered with a shot from close. Following that goal, Thacher would once again find the back of the net by weaving past the defenders and freshman goalie Mikey Hawker and finishing one-on-zero.
But Laguna would quickly recover from down 2-1 and tie the game. A foul in the box would result in a penalty kick taken by sophomore Ryan Bickett. Ryan drilled this shot into the bottom right corner of the goal.
The score was tied 2-2 going into half time, and the second half would turn out to be a defensive battle.
Towards the end of the match, sophomore Connor Curran would kick the ball over his head, spin around, and get fouled on the play. This foul was the second yellow card of the game on the Thacher player, resulting in a disqualification. This would force Thacher to play with only ten men on the field for the rest of the game.
Laguna was not able to capitalize on this advantage and the game would end in a 2-2 tie.
